Comments: Was stationed at DM from Jan. 1979 to Mar. 1980 as an MMT in the propulsion shop.  Would love to hear from some of my old cronies from the various different shops.  I haven't seen many names from my old shop nor any of the people from my big tech school class of six people that got sent to Little Rock. Where are you guys, Ryan, Boulay, Brown and the rest?  Worked with many great people and loved every minute of it.  Anyone remember turtle races?

My name is James Sorrell, I was a Deputy in the 570th SMS from Jun 1980 - July 1983 before and during the shutdown.  My friends were Robert Lemoins, Walter Geiss, Rick Dibagio, Mark Ertlemeier, The Varney and Staley brothers, Charles Wright, Mike Soto, Scott Blanchard and a cast of hundreds, far too many to name.  Many of you may remember me as the guy whose wife Talitha, closed the office door on Yabui and threatened his life.  I became somewhat of a folk hero after that!

I found the web page by chance and believe me it's impressive.  I kind of think of it as a tribute to the few of us who sacrificed so much in the unfortunate eventuality that our country would need us to do a job that very few could do. If we don't have anyone else we have each other, even Yabui!

Comments: i hope you dont think i am being corny, but i want to thank all of you for your service in titans. you are all an outstanding credit to all of us. i joined the usaf, in 1980, was supposed to report for boot, in 1981, but had an accident, with a d8 cat dozer, which resulted, in a torn up knee. and they released me from it all.my chosen mos, was to be a missile fuel spesialist. here lately, i have been interested in collecting, any thing about missles, particulary, titans. could you please tell me where i might find some pics of the silos, etc.? i would like to ask a quick question, when they closed the silos, did they completely strip them? i mean the bunks, commmanders chirs, and things like that? i would appreciate any answer, once again, thank you for what you have done for us.i just wish i could have been one of you. thank you ,

Just found this website. I was a DMCCC and MCCC in the 570th from 72-75. Went through Wichita Falls and Vandenberg with Bob Culley, Chad Mitchell, Vern Lamplot, Seth Wilson and Ken Keen.

Just saw Bob Culley and Lew Grimes last night for the first time in 35 years. It brought back a lot of good memories.

MFT, 570th SMS, 1970-73, crew 063 assigned to site 570-7.  Great moment: taking the SAC I.G. inspector (a Major) topside following our demanding crew and site evaluation, only to discover the battery was dead on his vehicle -- he had left his lights on.  Grateful for the unique experiences, friendships and educational benefits.  Anyone know where I can get a 570th (Joker) patch?

I was a missile engineer in the 355th CES Missile Engineering Branch from 1976 to 1979. At that time the CES had just changed from a SAC unit to a TAC unit. The Missile Engineering Branch then found itself in a Tactical Training Wing with the people in it doing 100% of their work for the Strategic Missile Wing commander. Made for some interesting times. I ran the extended life program, developed and commanded the first "Post Attack Maintenance Force" that passed an ORI, and was the point guy for providing the CE guys for the associated Civil Engineering competitions in three Olympic Arenas. Saw your web site and thought I would add a little, cheers, Bob Brodel

My wife, Nancy and I attended the 390th 20th anniversary deactivation reunion in Tucson and enjoyed it so very much. Although I was not a part of the 390th SMW, I was welcomed as a brother, since I was a member of the 381st SMW at Mc Connell AFB. Since I last stepped out of 533-5 Launch Complex, at McConnell on 5/7/1968, I never thought that I would ever set foot again in a Titan II site, again. But through the efforts of the 390th, I was able to somewhat relive those memories of days so long ago in Tucson, and what fond memories they were. The stories were so good to hear and the memories so real. We all had much to tell with a short time to say it. There was only one person there that I could remember from my days at McConnell, and that was George Richard. He was a tour guide at the site. We had some real good stories to relate, but remembering names were too far off in the past to recall. So good to see the silo, launch duct, and walk through the cableway brought back the days of my youth. Most of all, to see the "bird" perched once again on the thrust ring. How I wished that more of the Titan II Missilemen from all the bases were able to attend. I know that the men and women of the 390th SMW Memorial Association would welcome all members, wherever they may be. I'm certainly proud to have been part of the 20th anniversary reunion of the Titan II deactivation and I hope on attending future reunions. "Peace was our profession, long live the memories of the Titan II". Thank you, men and women of the 390th SMW Memorial Association.

MFT at McConnell AFB, Wichita KS. 1964 through 1968. Enjoyed my time with the Titan II and was proud to serve. Have many fond memories of the sites and the the people that I worked with. Looking forward to the 20th Anniversary reunion in Tucson and taking many of those pictures that I could not take back then. And of course, I would hope to see possibly some of the people that was with me in tech school or in the field. Been back to Wichita twice since leaving SAC, and all I saw was the debris of the once mighty Titan II. What a sad ending for such a marvelous bird.

Hey, PITTS! rmember me, your old Red Rope from Wichita Falls, TX (1977-78)? Former 390th ELAB @ DMAFB, as well as Job Control! (78-81) Right now, I'm kickin' back in Maui, waiting to be deployed. I teach medical software for the DoD, now. It's the best job I've had since the USAF. Ironically, I joined the Air Force to travel, and they stationed me in my home town the whole time! LOL! Now I travel more than ever!  Anyone know where Nick Dejong, TJ Gallagher, or Mel Nelson are?

I served with the 570th from 1976 to 1980. I was a BMAT on the crews that served the northern sector. These were sites 01, 07, 08 and 09. Any body know what happened to Mike Jones? He was my last commander before he went off to work for DuPont or Dow chemical in Houston. That was 1980. Take care all.

Pulled nearly 450 alerts as a DMCCC and MCCC from June 1971 to Dec 1976. I believe I was our esteemed webmasters first commander. Was involved in deactivation as a Civil Engineering Missile Engineer at McConnell. Had a tour of 395C at Vandenberg in 1995 while attending a Space Command Environmental Conference. Visited 1-7 in 1998 on a Spring Break trip. Both visits sure brought back (mostly) good memories. Hope to hear from those who might remember me.

I spent about 3 years at Davis Monthan, between 1962 and 1965, assigned to the 390th Missile Maintenance Squadron as a missile engine mechanic. It was a fascinating period as many of us arrived prior to the first silos being commissioned. We were sent out to the silo construction sites working with the civilian contractors. Jim Hathaway

Served in 570 SMS 1966-1970..DMCCC instructor crew MCCC of R-007. Most alerts at 0-4. MFT was Jerry Freund..can't remember other crew any more Anyone remember Tony the janitor at 0-4? We would clean and he would love to cook breakfast, bringing some of his own supplies. Almost every AM the power would transfer to diesel because of the irrigation pumps going on around 0530-0600 in the area. Stayed in reserves. Retired from JAG in '89 an LCol. My name is on the door of the copper penny because I helped to restore it. Though some idiot left the "a" out of my last name. I was there for the last two years and just don't see many names I recognize. I was a facility electrician. My boss was MSgt Jacobishin. Anyone heard anything about his whereabouts?

Dear Sir: My name is Robert L. Hastings. The guestbook login would not record my entire email address. It is r.l.hastings@worldnet.att.net I have recently joined the Association of Air Force Missileers. For nearly thirty years, I have been engaged in a research project that may be of interest to missileers and security personnel. Since 1974, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) has been utilized by researchers to declassify thousands of documents relating to the U. S. Government’s unpublicized knowledge of the UFO phenomenon. A number of these documents concern UFO sightings near ICBM Launch Facilities and Launch Control Facilities during the Cold War era. Specifically, the documents summarize reports by Security Alert Team members—as well as launch, targeting, and maintenance personnel—describing repeated observations of luminous, silent, disc-shaped craft capable of hovering and high-velocity flight. The documents also confirm that while the UFOs maneuvered near the LFs and LCFs, they were frequently tracked on radar at several Air Force bases, including Malmstrom, Minot and Grand Forks. Furthermore, there are references to attempted intercepts of these objects by jet fighters. Since 1973, I have interviewed nearly thirty former missileers and security personnel who have described personal experiences identical to those referred to in the documents. To further my research, I am seeking information from former Air Force personnel who were involved in, or may have heard about, an incident involving UFOs and nuclear weapons. While I would prefer that my sources go on the record, I can assure those requesting anonymity of complete confidentiality. I would also welcome responses from persons who would just like to comment on my research. I may be e-mailed at r.l.hastings@worldnet.att.net or contacted at: 1 Six Range Point, Placitas, New Mexico 87043.

Hello to everyone. I just sent email to old friends I lost contact with, what a web site, good job. I was at DM Dec. 1966 through June 1970 in the RV section. Lots of fond memories of the 390th and the great personnel associated with it. I was RV team chief on Olympic Arena 1969 and 1970, we won both years. What an experience, if anyone remembers me send an email.

I served in the 571st from Feb '69-Oct '72 (after which I moved to Shepard and taught in the Launch Officer Course until March of '76). Col Denton was Wing CO and LtCol Hambleton was the Squadron CO. I spent two years as an MCCC in the Instructor Shop. Being ACP qualified, I pulled a lot of alerts at 1-1. Anyone know the whereabouts of my MFT, Alan "The HAWK" Hawkins? Great website. Thanks for rekindling the memories!

Just ran up on this site this evening and it brought back a bunch of memories. In Tucson between 66 and 70. Worked on yearbook in sixties for 390th. Spent most time on 570-8 site. Few names I can remember. Capt Weden, Sgt John Barnes, Lt. Gary Studt. Spellings may be wrong (years since I have even thought about these guys) I think I may have copy of annual and some old photos. I would love to hear from any of these guys. Thanks Mel Godbold,

I came to the 570th in '70 as a DMCCC, first assigned to R-038 at 0-1. Upgraded to MCCC, certified to Col Denton, and got R-058 at 0-1. Later moved to DOV with S-188, the 571st crew, and subsequently a wing crew. Pulled 220 alerts in all complexes. Got to keep a -1 when I left for Whiteman in '75. Got to say goodby there to Bob Eichel when he transferred to D-M, and had Rick Laskey, my first DMCCC on S-188, in my wedding party. I have copies of "Advance To Memory" and "Reset, Shutdown". I attended the Deactivation Ceremony in '84 and the 10th Anniversary in '94. Looking forward to the 20th.

I was a deputy crew commander and then a commander with the 571st and later became an instructor and then a standboard commander(1963-1968). This was my first e-mail from the 390th and I was not aware of all of the history and reunions that were going on. I am impressed and you all have done a great job! It really brings back a lot of good memories! Keep up the good work.

From 1969 to 1975, I was a BMAT at DM first with the 570th and then as a wing instructor with the 390th. I have had contact with several former crew members over the years and thought this web site would be a good way to find some old friends.

Wow! What a great site! My dad was in the 390th way back from the start(I think '62). He left in '69 and returned to DM in '74. I know he was the 1st shirt for the 571st later on. My dad now lives in Oregon but I do travel to Tucson as often as I can. If you remember "Big John" please e-mail me and I will get in touch with him. He don't like computers now! I can still remember all the parties up on Mt Lemon as a kid back in the sixties.....Keep up the good work!

Was assigned to the 390th/355th SPS and spent an awful lot of time in support of the missiles in the field and in maint. Worked as a Security Controller for most of my time. Great web page, brings back a lot of memories form the desert. Many responses from other SPs?
